The AGAC is a 501 C 3 non profit Greyhound adoption center located at the Birmingham Race Course.
We are a Pro-Racing Greyhound Adoption Group dedicated to the re-homing of retired Greyhounds.

Our love of the hounds has brought us together to help us move mountains in Greyhound adoption throughout Alabama!

In February of 2010,  thanks to the Birmingham Race Course and Victoryland, we were able to obtain Gertrude B. Longmiles, our 16 foot customized hauling van. "Gertie" had 24 built in crates which allowed us to help fellow Greyhound adoption groups with adoptable hounds. We have hauled Greyhounds from as far North West as Seattle, Washington; as far west as Phoenix, Arizona; as far north-east as Maine and Nova Scotia; to as far north as Ontario! We now have Gertie's successor, Ellanore and we plan many miles of Greyhound adventures with her!
If you are with a group or would like more information on why we do this, please visit our Adoption Group Partnership page!

Our Greyhounds are RETIRED, they are not rescued!
Know the difference!

RETIRED GREYHOUND
A Greyhound who has been retired from racing for one reason or another.
RESCUED GREYHOUND
A Greyhound who was found running loose, taken out of a kill shelter or for whatever reason was in a situation where its life was truly in danger.
RELOCATED GREYHOUND
A Greyhound who came to us from another farm, track, adoption group out of state who needed assistance in finding a forever home
RETURNED GREYHOUND
A Greyhound who, for what ever reason, had to come back into the adoption program to find a new home. Sometimes due to a divorce, family moving, financial reasons or sometimes they were just not the right fit for a particular family. Either way, the hounds are ALWAYS welcomed back "home" with us were we will guarantee that they will find a new permanent loving home!

REHABBED GREYHOUND
A Greyhound who has come into our care due to medical conditions. These hounds may be retired racers, returned to us, or even rescued by us. Medical conditions may be physical or psychological - from a broken hock to severe separation anxiety, our staff is 100% dedicated to their full recovery.

The staff here at the AGAC, and our Partnering Greyhound Adoption Groups who receive adoptable Greyhounds from us, have worked VERY HARD to make this a 100% ADOPTION FACILITY here at the Birmingham Race Course.  When you come meet the hounds here at the AGRAC and enjoy interacting with them, please know that they are not in danger and never were.
The majority of our Greyhounds are not "rescues" but rather just simply "retired".
